   Airplane Thermometer

WWII Weston Electric Airplane Thermometer Tester Rare

This is a rare vintage Weston Airplane Thermometer Tester from WWII..It is made by Weston Electric Instrument Corp Newark NJ. USA Model  #269 No. 82429 (I think). It is in a wooden case with leather carrying strap - the strap is coming apart but still firmly attached. The case has very interesting well constructed joints. Weston was a well known maker of quality instruments in WWII.
The wooden case has two openings.  Opening the smaller door, we find a cloth covered cable (unattached to the unit) and an Instruction Sheet with Directions for using Airplane Thermometer Tester. This sheet is stapled into the box and covered with a yellowed piece of plastic - staples at the bottom are loose. The top hinge is loose but one of the screws is still there.
Opening the second door is the gage with all the knobs. Knobs include: Inst. Test (Red / Black), Lead Test (Red / Black), Selector Switch (ranging from 20 - 350, Rheo (dial knob), C.C / I.C, Turn off switch (hand lettered), plus the dial itself. There is also a short connector wire attached from the case.
On the outside of the wooden case is a metal tag reading, "The Lewis Eng. Co. Naugatuck Conn. USA. Model No. 81TT4. Serial No. 8431. The top of the case has another metal tag reading: 7CAC-812159. The hinge side of the case has a metal tag reading "Battery". The bottom of the case has rubber type feet screwed onto it. The case measures approximately 9 1/2" long x 7 1/2" wide x 5 1/2 " deep.
